DRS for IBM Z

JES is Good

From the earliest days of LRS, we have embraced the legendary JES spool as the heart of our product suite. Why? Because no widely-available alternative spool has the proven reliability, scalability, and performance of this time-tested solution. But how do you utilize JES for applications that were not designed to write SYSOUT to the spool on their own?

The Dynamic Report System (DRS) provides an effective means of routing reports from batch jobs, online applications (i.e., CICS, IMS, IDMS), and remote TCP/IP hosts to the JES2 or JES3 spool. DRS can also route to a DASD file on the IBM Z host system, or to a UNIX HFS file using the Unix System Services (USS) element of IBM Z.

Many Platforms & Applications; One Central Point of Control

DRS extends the functionality of the LRS product suite to all platforms, providing facilities to capture, manage and control documents originating from any host. By implementing standard network protocols, DRS is able to receive documents from most operating systems as well as offer certified integration with SAP and SoftwareAG applications. For extended control, DRS also provides a simple client interface, available for most common platforms, offering direct control of document submission attributes and processing options and letting remote users or applications query or cancel previously submitted documents.

By enabling documents from any platform to be securely routed to the JES spool, DRS lets IBM Z customers establish a reliable, enterprise-class central point of control for managing output from any platform or operating system to any printer, fax server, email recipient, content management system or other output destination. This helps them save money and increases both the reliability and security of document delivery in their enterprises.
